Jailbreak iPhone 4S and iPad 2 Using Absinthe for Windows and Mac

Finally, the most anticipated untethered jailbreak for the A5 based Apple devices were released by the Chronic-Dev Team. Absinthe is the latest tool to jailbreak your iPhone 4S or iPad 2 running iOS 5.0/5.0.1 and has versions for Windows and Mac.

I know that you are all excited to jailbreak your iPhone 4S or iPad 2 but please don’t forget to make a back up of your files before proceeding in case anything will happen so you will just have to restore it through iTunes. Make sure that your iPhone 4S is running iOS 5.0.1 and the iPad 2 with iOS 5.0/5.0.1.

How to jailbreak iPhone 4S or iPad 2 with Absinthe:

  1. Download Absinthe and extract the file. You can choose for Windows or Mac. Run Absinthe V0.2 from your Mac and ‘Run as Administrator’ for Windows.
  2. Turn OFF Passcode key if you have and connect your iPhone 4S or iPad 2 via USB cable.
  3. Click “Jailbreak” in the window of Absinthe. This will take a few minutes and just be patient because it’s worth the wait. You can see “Restoring in Progress” but actually it was not. Just wait for your iDevice to finish and it will reboot.
4. You will now have a new Absinthe icon in your springboard. Just look for it and tap on it to continue the jailbreak process. After rebooting, the Cydia icon will now replace the Absinthe icon.

If you have difficulty in jailbreaking with Absinthe, you can watch the following video courtesy of Redmondpie.com.

That’s it! You will now have a jailbroken iPhone 4S or iPad 2. Although the process takes longer than the previous methods of jailbreaking, Absinthe also bypasses the DFU mode step which is usually present in the past.

Credits and many thanks to the Chronic-Dev Team for the success in jailbreaking the iPhone 4S and iPad 2 especially to @pod2g who first discovered the exploit for the iOS 5. Thank you guys!
