If you are residing in the Middle East, like the KSA, Qatar and the UAE, chances are you don’t have FaceTime enabled in your iPhone 4. Perhaps you will then ask, what is FaceTime anyway? Well, FaceTime is the number one feature that Apple was very proud of when they launched iPhone 4. Because of its front facing camera, iPhone 4 can directly make a video call to other FaceTime enabled iDevices via WiFi by just switching from a regular call with just a single tap. Sad to say, if you reside in these countries, the carrier has diabled this service since VoIP services is considered illegal.
While users have the right to enhance their iPhones, there are actually two ways on how to enable this great feature from their iPhone 4. You need to have a jailbroken iPhone 4 to do this tweak.
MiddleWhat is a jailbreak tweak that enables FaceTime the easy way through the BigBoss repo. Take note that this will only work for the iPhone 4 and is not guaranteed to work successfully.
“This package enables FaceTime if (and only if) it is disabled solely due to region restrictions. This will NOT enable FaceTime for any other reason. it is only usable on iPhone 4. It does NOT have any visible output, icons, or configurable options. It can be cleanly uninstalled.”
- Open Cydia and search for “MiddleWhat.”
- Tap install and confirm to start.
- After rebooting your iPhone 4, an activation message will be automatically sent to activate FaceTime.
- You should now have FaceTime in your iPhone 4.
Another jailbreak tweak that will allow you to enable FaceTime if it was restricted with your carrier is FaceTime Hacktivator.
To install, you need to add first this repo: http://apps.iphoneislam.com. Search for “FaceTime Hacktivator” in Cydia. Install and reboot your iPhone 4. After rebooting your iPhone, go to Settings app, Phone and activate FaceTime which will send an activation SMS for one time.
